Six Sigma Information
Six Sigma achieves dramatic improvement in business performance through a precise understanding of customer requirements and the elimination of defects from existing processes, products, services, or plants. Six Sigma designs or improves a process to meet or exceed delivery of those requirements.
The true value of Six Sigma lies in its positive impact to your organization’s bottom line. General Electric, one of the most successful companies implementing Six Sigma, has estimated benefits on the order of $10 billion during the first five years of implementation. GE first began Six Sigma in 1995. GE asserts that Six Sigma now produces annual benefits of over $2.5 billion across the organization. Black Belts save companies approximately $230,000 per project and can complete four to 6 projects per year.
The reasons for certification are the same for any other certification:
- to display proficiency in the subject matter
- to increase desirability by employers
- to potentially increase your salary
In some American companies, Six Sigma certification and experience are required for someone to advance within an organization. For instance, at some companies it is a requirement of every salaried employee to be green belt trained and certified if they want to be promoted within the organization. In other cases, Six Sigma certification is considered as proof of an individual’s energy and intent to be a leader within industry.
